About WODA

Wolaitta Development Association (WODA) is an indigenous, non-profit, membership-based local organization established in the 1950s to promote sustainable development and community empowerment in Wolaitta and beyond. Since December 2000 G.C., WODA has been actively implementing integrated development programs that address social, economic, and institutional challenges across the Wolaitta Zone.

WODA is legally registered with the Civil Societies Authority of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia under license number 0486. The organization’s head office is located in Wolaitta Sodo, with operational branch offices in all Woredas and towns of Wolaitta. In addition, WODA maintains a presence in several major cities and areas, including Addis Ababa, Hawassa, Arba Minch, Shashemene, Dila, Hadaro, Metehara, and Amibara, strengthening its national outreach and partnerships.

WODA’s history reflects resilience, community ownership, and institutional growth. Founded through the leadership of Dejazmatch Wolde Semayat Gebre Wold, a respected visionary and development pioneer, the organization quickly became a platform for mobilizing community resources and collective action. After periods of interruption and reorganization, WODA was fully re-established in 1993 E.C., marking the beginning of its current and most stable phase of operation.

Today, WODA stands as a trusted community development institution, committed to sustainable development, inclusive growth, and local empowerment. Through strong community participation, strategic partnerships, and accountable governance, WODA continues to serve as a catalyst for positive transformation, improving livelihoods and strengthening resilience across Wolaitta and surrounding communities.
