Sustainable Livelihood Security

Wolaita Development Association (WODA) has made significant contributions to improving agricultural productivity and strengthening food security through a range of integrated interventions. These efforts are aimed at alleviating poverty and mitigating the impacts of drought while promoting sustainable livelihoods. Key initiatives include the establishment of seed multiplication centre, provision of agricultural inputs, construction of essential infrastructure, and rehabilitation of degraded lands.

Among its major achievements, WODA established one seed multiplication centre and provided various agricultural inputs including farming tools, oxen, seeds, and seedlings to nearly 230,000 beneficiaries. The organization also delivered credit services and skill training to cooperatives and 7,954 farmers, enhancing their capacity and productivity. In addition, WODA rehabilitated and reforested 468 hectares of degraded land and maintained two irrigation schemes in Wolaita Zone to support sustainable farming practices.

Furthermore, WODA constructed a bridge in Offa Woreda and a veterinary post in Abela Abaya woreda to improve access to markets and livestock services. It also facilitated the reintegration of about 3,000 persons with disabilities and constructed houses for 166 displaced individuals. Through the establishment of grain banks and conducting research on ginger and Enset production, WODA continues to strengthen resilience and promote long-term food security in Wolaita Zone.
