Wolaita Development Association (WODA) has been delivering integrated health care services to vulnerable communities while strengthening local capacity through partnerships with various donors. These interventions have significantly improved access to essential health services, clean water, and sanitation, benefiting a large number of people across different woredas of Wolaita Zone.
Key achievements in this Thematic Area include the provision of medical services and food support for 124 People Living with HIV/AIDS, as well as ongoing care and support for 2,014 persons with disabilities. WODA also contributed to strengthening the health system by supporting 19 health institutions, constructing five new health posts, and maintaining one existing facility. In addition, more than 17,000 persons with disabilities were rehabilitated through combined medical care and economic empowerment initiatives. To enhance awareness and prevention, two HIV/AIDS information centres were established in Wolaita Sodo town.
In the area of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), WODA implemented impactful projects to improve access to clean and safe water. These include the construction of two deep wells, development of 23 public water supply points, and extension of 40 Kilometres of water pipelines. Furthermore, 12 streams were improved to ensure safer water access for communities. To ensure sustainability, WODA also established and provided capacity-building training for more than 4,620 WATSAN committee members and water scheme technicians, strengthening local management and maintenance systems.
